A short story about us
In 2022, a coalition of Latino nonprofits in Watsonville, CA called on us after a devastating flood impacted over 5,000 families. We uncovered a critical gap: nonprofits lacked a direct, multilingual communication system to reach their clients during emergencies. This insight sparked the development of InformaText (DBA), our HIPAA-compliant SMS platform launched in late 2023.

Barbara Ann Garcia
Barbara Ann Garcia is a nationally recognized public health leader with over 35 years of service advancing equity and community well-being. She is the CEO if HealthCare UnTold, LLC, a consulting and multimedia firm supporting nonprofits and vulnerable communities. She also co-hosts the HealthCare UnTold podcast, spotlighting grassroots changemakers in health and social justice.
In 2023, Barbara and her team launched InformaText, a HIPPA-compliant, multilingual SMS platform designed to help nonprofits reach underserved populations through trusted, accessible communication—especially during emergencies.
Barbara previously served as Director of Health for the San Francisco Health Department, managing a $3 billion budget and leading 8,000 staff. Her tenure included groundbreaking programs addressing homelessness, behavioral health, and violence. She held the position of Associate Administrator of AIDS with SAMHSA within HHS. She also founded Salud Para La Gente, a farmworker health clinic in Watsonville.
She holds degrees from UC Santa Cruz and the University of San Francisco, along with two honorary doctorates from USF and CIIS recognizing her leadership in health equity and community service.
Gerardo Sandoval
Gerardo Sandoval is the Co-founder and Chief Operating & Financial Officer of HealthCare UnTold and InformaText. With over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, he oversees operations, finances, and technology development to strengthen health and social service communication. Gerardo has produced media content, including podcasts and radio programs, and helped design InformaText's infrastructure to meet industry standards for nonprofit SMS communication and outreach.
Lance Kuo-Esser is the Chief Technology Officer for HealthCare UnTold and InformaText (dba). Lance is a technologist and entrepreneur focused on building practical, scalable tools for mission-driven organizations. As Technology lean, he works with nonprofits to improve day-to-day communications, volunteer mobilization, and coordination during emergencies.
His approach emphasizes simple products, clear outcomes, and user feedback at every step. Lance is also a PhD student in clinical pharmacology at the Cincinnati Children's, which keeps his work evidence-aware and safety-minded. Outside of work, he volunteers in search and rescue, staying close to the communities we aim to support.

Who We Are...
HealthCare UnTold LLC established in 2021, developed InformaText, a bilingual outreach and messaging service to support nonprofits to improve communication and outreach. HelathCare UnTold also has a podcast and provides nonprofit consulting services. It supports nonprofits in empowerment and organizational development through culturally responsive strategies. InformaText was developed by highly experienced community professionals who possess a wealth of knowledge of health, human services and technology.
